The Lagos State House of Assembly has ordered the closure of the blood bank section of the Gbagada General Hospital.
This was done through its Committee on Health Services accompanied by the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation
Agency (HEFEMAA).
The main reason behind the closure was the observation that blood bank had screened and unscreened blood lumped together.
HEFEMAA team leader Dr. Mabel Adjekughele observed that the blood bank was in a bad state, with screened and unscreened blood lumped together.
She observed that blood that have tested positive were muddled up with negative ones.
Noting that the negligence poses a danger to patients, the HEFEMAA team leader advised that the blood bank be closed.
