This is quite simple. When you go to buy a new USB device or cord,
pickup the USB and check the two holes that reveals the BUS/Contact. If
the conductor there is Gold color (yellow in color), then it is made
with copper material which is the original.
Copper has a high conductivity than aluminum, copper also has
relatively high tensile strength (the greatest stress a substance can
bear without tearing apart).
Now if the two holes is silver in color, then it means the material
used is aluminium which is fake and can malfunction at anytime.
Aluminium only has about 60% conductivity capacity as compared to copper
but its tensile strength is very low and can tear apart when subjected
to heat.
The partial contact at the USB bus creates a lot of heat which
aluminium can’t withstand sometimes so it melts and start fluctuation
before it fails to connect. If you are using this type of USB, you will
be experiencing partial contact now or soon.
Most universal modems in Nigeria market today are made with this
aluminium contact, because aluminium is cheaper than copper, and the
manufacturers/ importers make more money from such.
Take a look at the picture above the two holes that reveals the bus contact is gold in color which means it is the original USB.
So when next you go out to buy a USB, check the two holes to make sure it’s copper especially if the cost is high. You shouldn’t pay to much for a USB device made with aluminium.
